This week in AP lit we dove right into the tragedy subject. I think tragedy is pretty boring, but I can see why we need to learn about it. Reading a few of the passages, it is evident that tragedy is so famous because it is applicable to anyone, and everyone. A common theme that runs through all tragedy is that everyone can relate to it, because everyone has things that have meaning to you, and that you desire. Tragedy is when you lose this thing that you so desire, and this is why people enjoy reading it. What makes this unit worse than others is that Mr. Schoenborn isn't here. We don't have anyone to help us through it and try to make it seem better than it really is. The current situation that we are in, or as i understand it, is as follows. You need to get through a giant pit of mud. You have to get through it one way or another. Now, normally, you would be able to bee tied to a rope, and dragged through with a truck in order to make it quicker, and less disgusting and painful. Now that Mr. Schoenborn is gone, we have to go through the mud pit without a truck; we have to swim through it. With the truck you are bound to stay on top. But having to swim through it yourself, you are likely going to, at some point, sink to the bottom and fill your lungs with mud, and die a slow, painful death.
It is not so much the matter of learning about tragedy that is not enjoyable, but more specifically, those dreadful blogs on it that we must complete every single day. We must complete these blogs every single day, (now watch video) and each day it seems that what we are responding to is the hardest thing in the world to write a blog post about, until the next day when it is even harder. It is difficult for me to relate to this unit.
Now, I realize that I am preaching to the choir because I am the one who signed up for AP lit, so I guess I just have to deal with it. I can't wait to push through this unit, and just get it over with. The next one will be better.
