This week we continued derivatives. Such joy! It is all really easy to me and I am super tired of it. It's just busy work, and I don't really feel like it's super necessary. Derivatives really make sense to me. Math has always fascinated me and I am exited to learn more. However, right now I am just quite bored of this. We learned the chain rule earlier this week, and it quickly made sense to me. The way that we learned the chain rule was by exploring finding derivatives of composition of functions. We were given a sheet to find the derivatives of functions like sin(3x). We used desmos to check and guess eventually finding the derivatives of these functions. After working through about 5, we devised a rule to find the derivative of a composition of functions. This rough rule turned out to be nearly exactly the chain rule. I thought that this lab was very helpful. The lab led me to understand the chain rule significantly better than I would have with just a normal lesson. The lab led me to actually think about things, and devise our own type of understanding of derivatives. It.It was interesting to do because it almost puts you in the place of the person who discovered the chain rule. Mathematicians probably just guess and checked the same types of things that we did. Overall, derivatives are easy and boring, let's get on with it!
