Reading Survey
Whether Austin is a reader or not is questionable. He learned to read in the early stages of school much like other kids. People learn to read by being taught by other people who know how to read. Duh. Reading is important because it gets people away from their everyday lives. Once a person really commits to letting themselves fall into a book, they will discover that it is very relaxing. It takes a good amount of dedication to really read a book to its full extent. Unfortunately, Austin is not quite a very enthusiastic reader. It could be that he has just not found many great books. He is always trying to get back into it, with some lingering attempts. Perhaps he has yet to just find a consistent number of books that can hold his retention until they begin to get exiting. The hardest part of reading for Austin is getting into a book that starts to get slow. The unknowing of whether to continue reading or forfeit to another book that is more exiting is always in the back of his mind while reading. He feels that the best way to make reading easy is to find a calm place, preferably outside and reserve a few hours to dive in and understand the book more as he reads. As with many people, it is difficult for him to start reading a book that doesn't pop out at him. One that has some significance on the cover or one that you can understand what is happening, and it is interesting withing the first 10 or 20 pages. When in the possession of a book that interests him, he often reads about every-other day. When in a dry spell of meaningless books that lose his interest, his personal reading time is few and far between. He feels that in general, reading is a bit of an un-tapped resource.

It has been a long ride for him and he certainly does not see himself stopping anytime soon. Writing is perhaps the most important skill learned in school, and Austin certainly realizes this. It is applicable to any job, and is necesary for any successful person. The main thing that a person neds to be a great writer is to effectivly put what is in their mind, on the paper. everyone struggles with it, finding nust the right words to match the mood and concept of what you are thinking. Once someone has these skills, they need to be able to express themseles, or persuade or whatever the specific writing calls for. Austin likes to write about specific things. Not really creative writing so to speak. Austin is not great at exoessing himself, or writing fiction to make it believable to the reader. What he does enjoy is persuasive pieces, or any essay that he feels strongly about. He does not write very often at home, in fact only when needed for class. Austin feels that he is a decent writer capable of producing quality work.
